Lithium Ion batteries appear to be expensive when compared to lead acid batteries, until you take a closer look! Normally you wouldn't discharge a standard lead acid battery below 50% of it capacity. With Victron Lithium Ion batteries you can safely discharge to 80% DOD. This along with their ability to recharge much quicker means you can normally reduce Ah capacity by around half!

Victron Energy’s Lithium batteries use iron-phosphate (LiFePO4 or LFP) which is the safest of the mainstream li-ion battery types. These batteries can be used to replace standard lead acid batteries in boats, motorhomes, RV, caravans, solar PV systems, off grid applications etc.

The cyclic life of most standard lead acid batteries would be 300 - 600 cycles, the Victron Lithium Ion battery could be nearer to 3000 cycles, making them a cost effective solution in the long term. A Victron Lithium Ion battery does not need to be fully charged. Service life even slightly improves in case of partial charge instead of a full charge. This is a major advantage of LFP compared to lead-acid. Other advantages are the wide operating temperature range, excellent cycling performance, low internal resistance and high efficiency.

In many applications especially off-grid solar and wind, energy efficiency is very importance. The energy efficiency (discharge from 100% to 0% and back to 100% charged) of the average lead- acid battery is 80%. The energy efficiency of a Victron Lithium battery is 92%.

Victron Lithium Batteries have built in Bluetooth enabling you to communicate with the battery to check cell voltages, temperature and alarm status on your smart phone. This can be very useful to warn of a possible problem, such as cell imbalances.
